Volunteer
opportunities in the children and youth services tend to be of a
regular nature (at least 6 months with regular commitment) or project
basis (e.g. teaching craftwork or photography over a period of at least
one month). This is so as to encourage volunteers to be able to build
rapport with the children and minimize the chances of them having to
re-adapt to new faces again and again, which could be emotionally
unsettling at times. Volunteers helping in children and youth services
need to be at least 17 years of age.
Various
opportunities are also available in the elder care services and in
indirect support services e.g. fundraising events like the annual
Christmas Kettle Appeal etc. We have groups coming in, for example, to organise fundraising and collection drives (licensing applies if it involves collection of funds or donations from
the public), outings and outdoor activities for beneficiaries,
facilities improvement projects, festive season celebrations,
performances or just doing something which you all have a skill in.
