Volunteers, Our Partners In Caring

At The Salvation Army, volunteers play an active role in caring and enriching the lives of the children, youths, elderly and families we serve. You can support an existing programme, or initiate a project to bless our beneficiaries!

Make A Difference!

The following is a list of general volunteering opportunities at The Salvation Army:


Academic and Youth Mentoring


Coach children and youth in their schoolwork, typically once a week over a 3-6 months commitment period. Conduct training and activities for youth, typically once a month over a 1-year commitment period.

Roles: Academic Mentor, Youth Mentor


Befriending and Facilitating Activities


Facilitate and support various activities and/or programmes at the centres.

Roles: Befriender, Activity Facilitator


Sharing of Talents and Skills


Showcase to our beneficiaries your talents, e.g. hairdressing, providing career advice or basic health screening. Organising a workshop/class.

Role: Activity Facilitator


Event and Logistic Support


Provide event, logistics, photography or driver support to our centres.

Roles: Event Facilitator, Driver/Transport Minder, Photographer, Videographer, Logistic Assistant


Fundraising and Christmas Kettling


Raise funds or organise collection drives for pre-loved items. Your organisation or school may also adopt a kettle pot to help raise funds internally for The Salvation Army. For more information, please email us at kettling@smm.salvationarmy.org. Following current guidelines on pandemic measures, we will not be recruiting bell-ringers as volunteers are not allowed to collect donations at public venues.

Organising Activities and Outings


Organise a workshop or class to impart skills, i.e. sports, music, handicraft, cooking to our beneficiaries. Learning journeys/self-initiaited activities, entertainment/celebration for our beneficiaries as well as indoor activities can also be considered.

Role: Activity Facilitator


Sorting of Retailing of Donations in-kind


Packing and sorting of donated items (Tanglin Family Hub) and retail merchandising duties (Upper Bukit Timah).

Roles: Logistic Assistant, Retail Assistant
